The Department of Health has a new National Lung Cancer Screening Program (NLCSP) which uses a low dose CT scan to detect Lung Cancer earlier in all Australians.

This program is designed to help save the lives of 12,000 Australians in the next 10 years.

As part of the program, if you are eligible, all scans will be covered by Medicare.

So, who is eligible for the program?

  • Are you aged between 50 and 70 Years old?

  • Show no signs or symptoms of Lung Cancer (For example, shortness of breath or coughing up blood)

  • Have a history of at least 30 Pack-Years of cigarette smoking, are still smoking or have quit in the past 10 years.

Please speak with Reception and book your phone consultation with your GP to work out your ‘Pack-Years’ based on how many cigarettes you smoke and for how many years.

Your doctor will then, if eligible, provide you with a low-dose CT scan request form.
